- Natural parasite de-wormer which works in a purely physical/mechanical manner, not "chemical" and therefore has no chemical toxicity
- Parasites don’t build up a tolerance or immunity to it, so rotation of wormers is unnecessary
- Helps reduce flies and fleas. Feeding DE daily decreases manure odor which attracts fewer flies and keeps fly larvae from developing, thereby reducing the fly population.
- DE is naturally a drying agent, spread it in stalls, on the manure pile and around the barn in moist areas to reduce flies and other parasites.
- DE is safe for cats, dogs, chickens, any animal or person that comes in contact with it either internally or externally.
The recommended dosage for equines is 1/2 to 1 cup per day. Since it is a fine powder we prefer to mix it in with their grain or forage mash, it does not alter the taste of the feed for the horse. With any natural worming program it is important to do fecal egg count checks. If fecal counts are not within an acceptable range after feeding DE for 30 days, you can increase the daily dose. Feeding too small a dose of DE may not give desired results. However increasing the dose, even if it is greater than the recommended dose, will do no harm.
If you're in our area and are able to drop off a fresh fecal sample we can run an egg-count test for you. We recommend doing a fecal analysis at least 4 times per year.
